Ambassador of Bhutan reaffirms interest in vocational education and training cooperation

On May 4, 2022, Tshering Gyaltschen Penjor, the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Bhutan to the European Union, visited the German Confederation of Skilled Crafts and Small Businesses together with his colleague Namgay Choden and the Consul General for Bhutan, Dr. Wolfgang Pfeiffer. Holger Schwannecke, the Secretary General of ZDH, welcomed the visitors together with Sophia Grunert, the Head of SCIVET Coordination Office.

The ambassador explained that Bhutan is currently focusing on two priorities: the transformation of the education sector and the diversification of the economy. In vocational education, Bhutan wants to introduce a dual system inspired by Germany’s dual vocational training. Bhutan’s Ministry of Labor is already working on a strategy for this. In addition, the Kingdom of Bhutan has also already launched projects on training. In order to implement these projects, there is great interest in employing German master craftsmen and women for assignments of several months in Bhutan. The ambassador emphasized that in addition to experienced master craftsmen and women, young master craftsmen and women would also be warmly welcomed.
