Hybrid expert assignment in South Africa

In April 2021, the Steinfurt-Warendorf District Association of Skilled Crafts carried out a purely technical short-term expert assignment completely virtually for the first time. The instructors at uMfolozi College in South Africa learned how to didactically prepare a training task on the masonry of pillars and arches. The South African trainers slipped into the role of trainees. Martin Pillich, the expert from Germany had prepared an instructional video in advance and explained it via video conference. The training task was performed by the trainers on site. Dr. Jan-Niclas Gesenhues concludes: “The experiences are extremely positive and show that virtual training is possible even in the craft sector, even if this does not, of course, replace face-to-face training one-to-one.”
